FIRST PEOPLES' GATHERING HOUSE MONTHLY UPDATE
October 8, 2021
ENGAGEMENT HIGHLIGHTS
The informational open house event held on September 15 was a great success! Thank you to all the Indigenous staff, faculty and students who stopped by to meet with the project team and the keen interest and support for the project. Your comments and encouragements are much appreciated. During a special event hour dedicated to Indigenous students, a class from the Indigenous University Preparation Program and a group of students with the Indigenous Student Centre had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the Urban Arts architect during a guided tour of the project information boards.

DESIGN UPDATE
During the month of September, the construction management team continued to reach out to local host nations to identify opportunities to engage Indigenous communities in the provision of materials, supplies and labour during construction. The design team’s efforts over the past several months have hit a major milestone as the Building Permit application has now been submitted. Demolition of the Strand Hall Annex temporary structure is slated to start in October in preparation for the new First Peoples’ Gathering House.
COMMITTEE UPDATE
After taking a break over the summer months, the Stakeholders Committee reconvened in September to meet and discuss the latest design progress of various spaces within the building with valuable feedback sought from Indigenous students on the layout and functionality of the space.
