FASS 101 - STT - FASSFirst Special Topics Seminar (3)
Students choose one of 10 FASSFirst Special Topics seminars open only to first-year FASS students by invitation from the Dean’s Office. Top ranked professors from across the Faculty work with students to discover the surprising, profound and interdisciplinary reach of the arts and social sciences. Students will learn to draw connections between values, ideas and evidence while developing core academic skills, from reading to research, writing and dialogue. Students with credit for FASS 101W may not take this course for further credit. Breadth-Humanities/Social Sciences.

FASS 110 - STT - Exploration in the Arts and Social Sciences (4)
Using Indigenous and non-Indigenous texts, FASS 110 focuses on contemporary Indigenous topics and concerns in a variety of fields including English literature, sociology, biology, gender and sexuality, and art history. Students will work on writing assignments in class and independently, will attend field trips and will be assigned group projects. Students with credit for FASS 110W may not take this course for further credit.

FASS 118 - STT-Inequality and Poverty: Evolution, Ethics and Redistribution (3)
Considers the conceptualization, measurement and evolution of inequality and poverty, with special reference to the comparative setting of the USA and Canada. Topics will include: Conceptualizing Distribution, Inequality and Poverty; The Evolution of Inequality in the USA and Canada; Poverty and Homelessness; Global Poverty and Inequality; Wealth and Earnings; Ethics; Politics and Redistribution. Breadth-Social Sciences.
FASS 122 - STT - Place-based Coast Salish Histories (3)
Provides an introduction to Coast Salish communities on Vancouver Island, the mainland, and on both sides of the Canada-US border. We will learn from directly from Coast Salish individuals and academics, and the class will incorporate place-based learning experiences including a Halq'eméylem place names tour in the Fraser Valley on June 6, 2018, which will take most of the day (8am-5pm).

First term of work experience in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Co-operative Education Program. Units for this course do not count towards the units required for an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV degree. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). Prerequisite: Open only to students accepted to the FASS Co-op Program.

FASS 310 - STT - Framing the Liberal Arts: Applied Research Project (4)
Questions the place, meaning, and practices of the liberal arts and social sciences at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Using Drupal, an open-source web content management platform, teams will analyze course syllabi from the 2018/2019 academic year. Involves professional teamwork, big text database construction and analysis. Learn how disciplines frame teaching and learning. Prerequisite: 60 units.
FASS 401 - FASS Co-op Practicum IV (3)
Fourth term of work experience in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Co-operative Education Program. Units for this course do not count towards the units required for an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV degree. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). Prerequisite: Open only to students accepted to the FASS Co-op Program.
FASS 402 - FASS Co-op Practicum V (3)
Fifth term of work experience in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Co-operative Education Program. Units for this course do not count towards the units required for an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV degree. Graded as pass/fail (P/F). May be repeated for additive credit. Prerequisite: Open only to students accepted to the FASS Co-op Program.
