Advanced Vibration MSE 421 (3)

Advanced introduction to vibration, free vibration, harmonic excitation of undamped systems, harmonic excitation of damped systems, base excitation, rotating unbalance, impulse response, response to an arbitrary input, response to an arbitrary periodic input, transform method, two degree of freedom model, more than two degrees of freedom, systems with viscous damping, Lagrange's equations, vibrations of string or cable, vibration of rods and bars, torsional vibration, bending vibration of a beam, finite element method. Prerequisite: MSE 222 (or ENSC 282), MSE 280 (or ENSC 380) and a minimum of 80 credits. Students with credit for ENSC 436 may not take MSE 421 for further credit.
