Grade Requirements

Undergraduate Programs

Criteria

For admission to the Beedie School of Business, students will be selected competitively from one of the following four streams. To be considered for admission to the faculty, students in categories 2, 3 and 4 must have completed each lower division required course with a minimum C- grade.

Joint Major Applicants

Students must first be admitted to the Business Administration program through one of the four streams below (taking into account any modifications to Category 3 and 4 requirements where specified under each joint major program). Additionally, where specified under each joint major program, students must also satisfy any admission requirements listed for the non-Business portion of the joint major program. Please refer to the specific business joint program page found under the joint programs tab for further details.

Category 1 – direct from secondary school

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from secondary school graduates based on the general ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV admission requirements, faculty specific admission requirements, and an assessment of overall leadership potential and extra-curricular achievements. Successful applicants will have experience in one or more of the following extra-curricular areas: entrepreneurship, social activism, athletics, arts (performing, visual, music, and writing), community leadership and/or involvement, career progression or other areas.

Category 2 – direct from a recognized post-secondary institution

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from students transferring from a recognized post secondary institution. These students must have completed all of the required lower division courses (except BUS 207 and 254 which may be completed after faculty admission). Students will be selected competitively based on grades achieved in the nine lower division required courses,** with a maximum of two repeated courses on those nine lower division courses.

Category 3 – all courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from students who have completed all of their courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV including the required lower division courses (except BUS 207 and 254 which may be completed after faculty admission). Students will be selected competitively based on the grades achieved in the nine lower division required courses,** with a maximum of two repeated courses on those nine lower division courses. Note that a minimum ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.4 is also required for admission to the faculty.

Category 4 – some ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and other post-secondary courses

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from students who have completed some courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and some at other post-secondary institutions including the required lower division courses (except BUS 207 and 254 which may be completed after faculty admission). Students will be selected competitively based on the grades achieved in the nine lower division required courses** earned at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and other institutions, with a maximum of two repeated courses on those nine lower division courses. Note that a minimum ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.4 is also required for admission to the faculty.

Application Procedures

Students applying under category 1 or 2 should apply to the faculty at the same time that they apply for admission to the University.

Category 3 or 4 applicants should apply to the faculty after completing the 30th unit. Students should apply during the term in which the lower division requirements (except BUS 207 and 254) are completed. Students not accepted upon initial application may reapply. Unsuccessful applicants may appeal through the faculty admissions appeals committee.

Non-Majors' Access to Business Courses

300 and 400 Division BUS Course Enrolment Restrictions

Students other than those accepted into a program in business administration may complete selected 300 and 400 division business administration courses contingent upon

  • space available on day five of the first week of classes
  • meeting the prerequisites for the requested course
  • a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.67

Registration in BUS 360W and upper division courses in the honours accounting concentration is limited to students who are approved in a business plan.

Only students who have been formally admitted to the Beedie School of Business will be awarded a bachelor of business administration.

Grade Requirements

In addition to normal university grade point average requirements, the Beedie School of Business requires a minimum 2.40 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for entry into all 300 and 400 division business courses.
