International Studies Master of Arts Program

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Calendar 2012 Summer
This full-time 12 month program, leading to a master of arts (MA) in international studies, consists of seven courses that are completed over three consecutive terms. Courses will be dependent upon which course stream a student is completing. These are
- stream A – international development
- stream B – complex emergencies
Program Requirements
Candidates complete a minimum of 30 units, including at least 24 units of course work and a project (six units).
Stream A International Development
- IS 800 Problems in International Development Policy and Practice (4)
- IS 801 Institutions, Policies and Development (4)
- IS 802 Political Economy of Development (4)
- IS 830 Analytic Approaches for International Studies (4)
- IS 888 MA Paper (6)
and two elective courses subject to approval from the graduate chair or program director.
Stream B Complex Emergencies
- IS 800 Problems in International Development Policy and Practice (4)
- IS 806 State Failure and Reconstruction: Comparative Perspectives (4)
- IS 807 Complex Emergencies and Humanitarian Intervention (4)
- IS 830 Analytic Approaches for International Studies (4)
- IS 888 MA Paper (6)
Students who choose this stream complete all of
and two elective courses subject to approval from the graduate chair or program director.
Extended Essays or Project
The extended essays or project option requires two extended essays based on core readings or, with the approval of the graduate chair, a project.
