The master of education (MEd) is a professional degree signifying advanced knowledge about and advanced training in educational practice.
This cohort program, leading to the MEd degree in the teaching of secondary school mathematics, is offered jointly by the Faculty of Education and the Department of Mathematics. Students pursuing the MEd (course work) option will, in addition to 28 units of required course work, complete a minimum of seven units of graduate electives in education and/or mathematics, and a comprehensive examination.

See graduate general regulation 1.3 for University admission requirements. In exceptional circumstances, applicants who do not meet these requirements may be considered if superior scholarly or professional achievement is demonstrated.
Graduate education admission is granted to a specific degree and to a particular program or specialization. Updated application information is available beginning November 15 from the Faculty of Edication. All applications are reviewed once a year. Completed applications must be received by January 31.
Program Requirements
Students complete 35 units, including all of
- EDUC 844-5 The Research Basis of Mathematics Education
- EDUC 845-5 Learning Mathematics with Computers
- EDUC 846-5 Foundations of Mathematics Education
- EDUC 847-5 Teaching and Learning Mathematics
- MATH 603-4 Foundations of Mathematics
- MATH 604-4 Geometry
and seven units selected from Faculty of Education or Department of Mathematics graduate courses.
Comprehensive Examination
Candidates must complete a comprehensive examination by enrolling in EDUC 883. Normally, this occurs in the term in which course requirements are completed or in the immediately following term.
