PERS 118-3 Introduction to Persian I

An introduction to the Persian alphabet, phonology, morphology, and basic syntax, in relation to reading, writing and translating basic sentences. Students with any prior knowledge or experience in Persian beyond the level of this course may not register in this course. Students who have taken LANG 118-3 with this topic may not take this course for further credit.

PERS 168-3 Introduction to Persian II

Study of the vocabulary and syntax of standard Persian in preparation for reading, writing, and conversation. Students with any prior knowledge or experience in Persian beyond the level of this course may not enrol in this course. Prerequisite: PERS 118, or permission from the instructor. All students must attend a placement meeting and receive permission of the department. Students who have taken LANG 168-3 with this topic may not take this course for further credit.

PERS 200-3 STT - Intermediate Persion I

Persian 200 is a practical language course that supports Persian language learners at pre-intermediate and high elementary levels to upgrade their knowledge of Persian language to lower intermediate and intermediate levels. The focus of the course will be on standard and academic Persian, though colloquial Persian will be introduced whenever necessary. Students at this level are expected to know grammatical aspects and language structure introduced in PERS 118 and PERS 168. Knowledge of vocabulary and vocabulary spelling rules is a must. Though the primary focus of the course is on reading and writing skills, there is some emphasis on speaking and listening skills. An additional focus is on cultural learning which is as significant as second language acquisition and learning. Prerequisite: PERS 168 or permission from the department. Students who have not taken PERS 168 must attend a placement interview with the instructor.
