Linguistics of Speech Science Certificate Program

This program is for students who are seeking an introduction to theory and research in the study of speech science.

間眅埶AV Requirements

Certificate program approval must be obtained from the Department of Linguistics. An overall cumulative CGPA of 2.25 and a minimum C grade in LING 220 are required for program approval. Students are encouraged to declare into the certificate at least one year before graduation.

Continuation Requirements

After a student has completed 60 credits, a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of not less than 2.25 is required for continuance in the certificate program. Students whose CGPA falls below 2.25 cannot enrol in any upper division LING courses. After their CGPA is restored to 2.25, students must meet with the departmental advisor to redeclare into the program.

Students complete a total of 18 units including all of

  • LING 222 Introduction to Syntax (3)
  • LING 290 The Science of Speech (3)
  • LING 330 Phonetics (3)
  • LING 350 First Language Acquisition (3)

and two of

  • LING 295 Language and the Law (3)
  • LING 321 Phonology (3)
  • LING 322 Syntax (3)
  • LING 401 Topics in Phonetics (3)
  • LING 411 Topics in Applied Phonetics (3)
  • LING 415 Neurolinguistics (3)

Transfer Credit

A maximum of six units may be transferred from outside of 間眅埶AV toward this certificate.
