REEL 25 COMMENTARY
1. Short insignificant take.2. Police radio on motorcycle, on only during first minute and at 3'15". Airplane overhead (1'00"-2'00"), occasionally sounds from recordists inside car. Ferry approaching with a tock-tock motor (4'00"), people leaving ferry (5'20").
3. Recordist missed a ring, announcing departure, and complains about it at beginning. Same tock-tock motor disappearing in the distance (2'00"), sometimes reappearing over ambience. Seashore acoustically not present, hard to know that it is a ferry.
4. Neighbourhood ambience for two minutes before bells start. Lowest bell not working, which gives the ring (a la Big Ben) a comical effect, thus the hour is not being rung either.
5. Communication through P.A. system.
6. This is in the main auditorium, horse jumping area. Lots of people in foreground and background.
7. As soon as hawker has stopped (PA system close by and clearly to understand), another voice announces over another PA system upcoming event and music.
8. Lots of noise and recordist commenting on the mechanical noise everywhere. Motor pump of automatic milker (1'00"), no cattle audible.
9. Cattle make soft clunking sounds with the ropes they're tied up with. Otherwise acoustically unrecognizable that there is cattle in the same space, since the predominant sound is the tractors.
10. Useless take.
11. Various mechanical sounds in background, bucket clunking, voices in foreground, chains rattling, tractor and hammering in background. Only by listening very closely can one distinguish the polishing action. Creaks originate from a wooden frame on which saddles are mounted.
13. Chains rattling and rustling in hay, snorting of horses, hardly any mechanical background noise, only people and some hammering and clunking. Grooming of horses, acoustically not recognizable, but girl who brushes the horses clicks her tongue ever so often.
14. Not very interesting, just a lot of chaotic people, animal and PA system sounds. Can't hear tying of horse's tail!
15. Horse knocking very violently at stall, trying to get out (can't blame it for that, in that racket!).
16. Piling of straw in foreground, and some cow moos, but generally again a hell of a racket in background.
17-21 Good "moos", sometimes in counterpoint with another more distant moo, all this accompanied by a lot of background noise.
22. More moos, general ambience and motor of milking machine in foreground. Note change of sound when machine attached to cow (1'00").
23. Boy saying his name into microphone.
24. Lots of disturbance on left channel. Moozak, kids screaming... what a racket! Recordist slowly moving through amusement area.
