REEL 24 COMMENTARY

1. Siren in far distance during first minute, some distant traffic rumble and train horn. Some foreground rustle from recordists (1'30"). Gun (2'05") not very distinct, by no means spectacular. (For more details see data sheet.)

2. Take begins with almost a minute of sirens. Foghorn goes off every 31 seconds and has the same pitch as some continuous hum that is audible throughout take. Not a very good take. Continuous rumble on left channel (from wind?). Boat passing (5'30"), but only audible through increase in high frequencies.

3. A lot of traffic. A low in traffic brings out kids playing and birds chirping. Foghorn and some unidentified hum faintly audible from here. Car horn (3'40").

5. Kids with hockey sticks walking through parking lot, banging against garbage cans. Small airplane passes overhead. Otherwise traffic ambience. As airplane disappears, its sound rises above ambience occasionally.

6. Beginning of jet missing and boat horn distant. Useless.

7. Loud ambience.

8. Occasionally strong gusts of wind on microphone. Tire screeching (1'05"). Sudden low in traffic (3'00"), voices and footsteps (4'45"). Car horn (3'45", 6'30"). Group of people in foreground talking for several minutes. Note how they get completely covered up by traffic passing.

9. Airplane overhead, lots of preparational foreground activity, chains rattling, etc. People talking. Car horn (3'30"). Train whistle (4'10") in the distance, followed by small airplane low overhead (4'45"). Truck horn (5'05"). Another more distant small aircraft (6'10"). Acoustically it is not obvious that a ferry is docking.
