Welcome Back
As we return to campus this week, whether you’re reacquainting yourself with favourite spots or meeting colleagues in person for the first time, welcome back! I’m so excited to see the energy and liveliness return to our campuses.
I am taking a moment today to reflect on how much we have been through together. Through what will continue to be challenging times, we supported our students, advanced world-leading research and accelerated the work of running one of this country’s most prestigious universities. All of this was accomplished while living with a high degree of change and uncertainty.
I know there will be more uncertainty and new challenges ahead. What gives me confidence is what we have overcome together. Over the past 20 months, we have collaborated and challenged one another to find creative ways to move forward.
I encourage you to take a moment today to reflect on our successes and what it means to be part of the incredible group of people who make it all happen. Visit for the latest highlights on the work of our scholars and researchers. Check in with recent staff achievements and some of the People of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV.
Last September, in my first message to you as president of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, I said there was nowhere else I would rather be. One year later, that remains true. It has been an incredible privilege for me to navigate this difficult time alongside such a caring, dedicated group of faculty and staff.
I know that I have expressed my gratitude over Zoom, in videos and in emails—but I cannot wait to connect in person over the coming weeks and months, and to thank you for all you have done and for all that you give to our university.
Welcome back. I look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
Joy Johnson
