I began my scientific journey the same way everyone else does: pursuing a career as a classical flutist. My passion for music led me to a degree in music therapy, then from my clinical work in long-term care to a master's in music psychology before I arrived at the University of Toronto where I completed a PhD in a computational neuroscience lab in 2023.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I came to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV because my work is intensely multidisciplinary and I was encouraged by the collaborative potential between the university and the surrounding community.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

I am interested in how the brain continues to develop with age and neurodegeneration. To do this, I look at what happens in the brain when healthy older adults and those with dementia listen to music. Music tells us a lot about how the brain works from how we listen to sounds in our environment to how we experience emotions.
