I am the Digital Democracies Institute Deputy Director and an SSHRC postdoctoral fellow. I am a researcher, educator, and former media professional with 15 years of industry expertise.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO COME TO ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV?

I chose ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, and specifically the Digital Democracies Institute, for the opportunity to collaborate with outstanding scholars in media and critical data studies. Together, we are focused on researching and creating vibrant democratic technologies and cultures.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR RESEARCH OR YOUR PROGRAM TO A FAMILY MEMBER?

Through my work, I analyze how the diffusion of digital means of production is reshaping organizations and professional cultures. In my current project I analyze the implications of AI on creative labor and cultural expression. In my new research project, I address the following research questions:

  1. How will creative workers’ expertise, autonomy, and control over the creative process be affected by the introduction of AI?
  2. Who will benefit, and who will bear the brunt of automation in the creative industries?
  3. At a more fundamental level, what will count as creative labor as algorithms make headway in creative production?"
