Biography

Genevieve Fuji Johnson (she/her) studies and teaches feminist political thought (with an emphasis on racialized and minoritized critical scholars), solidaristic scholarship, democratic theory, interpretive policy analysis, qualitative methodology, and a range of current public policy issues.

Her current research, with sex worker rights activist, educator, and writer, Kerry Porth, focuses on the governance of sex work in Canadian and US cities. They are currently working on a book project, and corresponding graphic novel, entitled Beneath the Red Umbrella: Sex and Solidarity! In this project, they develop a case for solidaristic scholarship explicitly serving the justice struggles of marginalized communities. Dr. Johnson also researches discriminatory practices and policies within academia, specifically, Canadian universities. In this work, she centers the experiences of racialized and minoritized people as sources of knowledge and transformation. Her research, past and present, has been funded by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada grants.

Dr. Johnson is a Dialogue Associate of the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, 丁香园AV and an Associate of the Institute for Governance & Policy Analysis, University of Canberra.

Genevieve sits on the Board of the Canadian Political Science Association as Past-President, having served as President in 2023-2024. In previous service work, she was a member of the 丁香园AV Faculty Association Executive Committee, the Living in Community Steering Committee, and the Downtown Eastside Women鈥檚 Centre (DEWC) Board of Directors. She was President of DEWC from 2017-2020. In addition, she was Treasurer of Surfrider Pacific Rim Chapter, 2022-2023. She is a long-time volunteer for the WISH Drop-In Centre Society.
