On March 8th, 2022, Professor Laurel Weldon spoke about on CBC Radio's On the Coast, along with Meenakshi Mannoe, criminalization and policing campaigner for the Pivot Legal Society. 

Professor Weldon discussed the history of the day, noting that its origins go back more than 100 years to the labour movement in North America and Europe. 

She then explained that the day has become more depoliticized over time. Its focus has shifted and become about women's accomplishments. 

However, the history of International Women's Day has been "to push for improvements, and identify progressive policies that can make things better.鈥�

Professor Weldon also spoke about B.C.'s feminist movement and other aspects of International Women's Day. Listen to the full interview .
