Miguel Prieto-Gaez
Miguel is a current Ph.D. student in the Faculty of Health Sciences working on the impact of microbial infections in humans and the role of the microbiome in human infectious diseases. Miguel previously completed a Master of Science in Experimental Medicine at UBC and is a Medical Doctor who graduated from the Universidad del Valle in Colombia.
During his master's, he studied the epidemiology of respiratory infections in cystic fibrosis and explored blood-based gene expression biomarkers of nontuberculous mycobacterial infections in cystic fibrosis.
Previously, he was a researcher and project coordinator in translational research studies of neglected tropical diseases with a focus on host-pathogen interactions in human leishmaniasis. Miguel is interested in the implementation of results from infectious diseases genomics as public health policies and health care interventions.
