GSWS Caucus Colloquium 2023
By Yasmin Vejs Simsek
On March 18th the grad students of GSWS had a lovely and informative afternoon at the GSWS Caucus Colloquium 2023. The day started with lunch where we gathered around a Greek Buffet and almost went ahead of ourselves into karaoke with some faculty members. We contained ourselves however and focused on the matter at hand, which was to share some of our research/projects with each other under the question: How does our research approach the intersection of gender and justice? The day went as follows:
1-1:45 Lunch
1:45 Cameron Michels, Tackling Touch in Women's Rugby
2:20 Yasmin Simsek, Femicide in Türkiye
2:55 Reema Faris, The Elusive One: The Erasure of the Single Woman
3.30 Break
3:45 Tai Chi (15-minute session run by Shanny Rann)
4pm Nerida Bullock, No Harm, No Foul: Narratives of Harm in Canada’s Criminal Prohibitions of Polygamy
4:35 Shanny Rann, Choreo Dance Film Festival: Cultural Rights as Cultural Justice
The colloquium took place at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Harbour Centre Campus and afterwards a few of us went to celebrate at Steamworks. Due to the pandemic, this was also the first time some of us met each other in-person, and it was worth the wait. A lovely day gathered around our common interests and curiosity of each other’s research.
