¶¡ÏãÔ°AV begins re-appointment review process for incumbent president Joy Johnson
This message is sent on behalf of Angie Lamarsh, chair of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Board of Governors. It has been sent to all faculty and staff. A similar message will be sent to all students.
I am writing today to announce that ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Board of Governors has embarked on a re-appointment review process for incumbent president, Joy Johnson. President Joy Johnson’s current term is from Sept. 1, 2020 to Aug. 21, 2025.
At ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, university presidents are selected for a term of five years. If both the president and the Board of Governors are interested in extending the position, a re-appointment review process is launched for a second five-year term.
The re-appointment review process will include broad consultation across the university and with appropriate external constituents. It will include meetings with the incumbent, vice-presidents, and deans and, via several consultation initiatives, there will be opportunity for students, faculty and staff to provide feedback on President Johnson’s performance to date. All feedback will then be reviewed by the re-appointment review committee. The review process will begin in September 2023 when the committee is in place.
The potential re-appointment of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s president is a crucial decision for the future of the university. I encourage everyone to get involved and share your perspective. Your opinion is important to us.
The re-appointment review committee, which will be chaired by me, will be established shortly in accordance with Policy B10.06. The review committee will include representatives from the Board of Governors, faculty, deans, administration, staff and students.
Consultation will take place in the fall with further details of consultation opportunities to be released as they are finalized. Please watch your email and plan to participate.
If you have any questions about the review process, please contact Margarita Fullerton, University Secretary at margarita_fullerton@sfu.ca.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Angie Lamarsh
