Foundations in Climate Action
With climate-related crises in the news almost daily, it can be easy to feel that there are no solutions. This couldn't be further from the truth.
This foundational course is designed to enhance your climate knowledge, and your personal and professional power to act. Through a critical, reflective, and justice-centered lens you will learn the science of climate change, assess real-world examples of climate solutions and discover ways to enact meaningful change. At the end of the course, you'll be ready to implement tangible approaches that you or your organization can take to act on the climate crisis.

What you will learn
After completing this course, you鈥檒l be able to do the following:
- Explain the scientific basics of human-caused climate change and its impacts on various regions and peoples
- Assess ways in which climate change disproportionately affects specific populations
- Critically analyze mainstream narratives about climate change to better understand both effective and 鈥榝alse鈥� climate solutions, as well as those which center climate justice
- Demonstrate awareness of multiple worldviews and responses to the climate crisis
- Recognize key climate leaders in community, academia and government (particularly authors who are Black, Indigenous and Persons of Colour)
- Analyze the key drivers of the policies and actions that local and international players are implementing in response to the climate emergency
- Create meaningful and systemic climate solutions for you and your organization
How you will learn and be evaluated
- Prepare to spend about 8 hours per week on coursework
- Expect reading, videos, online discussions and skill-building activities
- Optional: Meet online with the class and instructor or guest speaker as scheduled by the instructor (recording available)
