Biography
How the distribution and character of permafrost hazards including active layer detachments, thaw slumps, and thermokarst subsidence relates to the underlying surficial geology, the history of wildfire, and changing climatological controls. I will also examine how the distribution and frequency of these hazards are likely to change in the future. My study sites have been selected where hazards threaten key transportation corridors and have the potential to affect the lives of Yukoners. The aim of my project is to examine past and present controls on permafrost hazards to gain an understanding of how they will evolve in future and how we can mitigate and adapt to the changing hazard landscape to maintain functional transportation networks in Yukon and the north.
