Thomas Budd

PhD Candidate

Thomas Budd is a PhD Candidate researching energy and climate policy within ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s School of Resource and Environmental Management. Thomas’s research focuses on analyzing policies and measures that will decarbonize Canada’s industrial sectors classified as Emissions-Intensive and Trade-Exposed and assessing urban policies that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions from personal transportation.  Supporting his research, Thomas holds a ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Graduate Dean’s Entrance Scholarship (GDES), a British Columbia Graduate Scholarship (BCGS), a SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship—Doctoral Program (CGS-D) and participates as a PICS Scholar within an interdisciplinary team funded by a Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions Opportunity Project Program grant.

Thomas received his Bachelor of Arts (Honours with Distinction) in Economics and Master’s in Resource Management at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, specializing in Resource, Environmental and Ecological Economics, and climate policy design and implementation. His training and expertise includes the application of Energy-Economy-Emissions models for multiple sectors including industry, transportation, residential and commercial buildings, and the spatial aspects of land use in relation to urban energy systems.
