Rules & regulations

ELIGIBILITY

The contest is strictly open to ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV alumni not residing in Quebec who have received a Senate-approved degree, certificate or diploma from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. To ensure eligibility, participants are required to provide their ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV student ID, or date of birth in lieu of student ID. Participants are advised to carefully review their entries to ensure the accuracy of the information required for verification of their ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV alumni status are included. 

The contest is open for the duration of June 3, 2024 to October 18, 2024 at 11:59PM PST. Any entries before or after this date will not count as an entry for this contest. Participants will be required to answer a skill-testing question that is a common legal requirement to ensure our contest aligns with legal regulations. Entries with incorrect answers to the skill-testing question will be disqualified. All selected winners will also be required to sign a Declaration and Release document (to be provided by the promoter) before receiving their prize.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The Promoter is ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Alumni (the “Promoter") whose registered office is located at Strand Hall 2118, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC, V5A 1S6.

  2. The Promoter is solely responsible for the organizing, administering, and fulfilling the contest. The contest and contest organizations are not affiliated with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn or Twitter/X in any way. 

  3. There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this contest.

  4. By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees to: (a) be bound by these Terms and Conditions and the decisions of the Promoter; and (b) release and hold the Promoter harmless, and its Boards of Governors, officers, employees and agents from and against any and all liabilities, losses, claims, demands, costs and expenses (including lawyer’s fees and litigation expenses on a solicitor and own client basis) whatsoever to which any of them may become subject arising from any actions or omissions by the entrant. 

  5. This contest is to be held exclusively on www.sfu.ca/alumni/address-2024. All entries must be electronically transmitted through the entry form provided on www.sfu.ca/alumni/address-2024. Any physical entries, including those mailed to the promoter’s office, presented in person, or sent via email, will not be accepted.

  6. The contest is strictly open to only ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV alumni, excluding those residing in the province of Quebec, Canada, and who have received a Senate-approved degree, certificate or diploma at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV.

  7. Eligibility participants are responsible for providing accurate information required for verification of their ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV alumni status. This includes providing their ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV student ID, or date of birth in lieu of student ID number and complete graduation credentials received from ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Entry that do not provide the required information for verification may be disqualified from the contest. 

  8. Employees of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV are not eligible to enter in the contest. 

  9. Participants enter the contest by submitting one (1) entry form towards the prize pool. Only one (1) entry form is permitted per participant. All participants will be required to answer a skill-testing question in compliance of Canada’s Criminal Code and the Competition Act of Canada. Entry with incorrect answers to the skill-testing question will be disqualified.

  10. The Promoter will not be held responsible for any incomplete or inaccurate entries and is under no obligation to verify or follow up on incomplete entries. Participants are responsible for ensuring that their entries provide the accurate information intended to be updated.

  11. Each prize claim is subjected to verification by the Promoter and/or its designated representatives. Entries made with multiple addresses, under multiple identities, or through the use of any device or other method to enter multiple times or entries that are in excess of the permitted number of entries are automatically void. All contest entries obtained through unauthorized sources or which are incomplete or in any way not in compliance with these Terms and Conditions are automatically void. The Promoter is not responsible for lost or late entries. The Promoter is not responsible for any miscommunications, failed communication systems, software malfunctions, or for any human errors in connection with this contest. The Promoter may suspend or terminate this contest if the Promoter is of the view this contest’s administration or fair play has been compromised. 

  12. The contest will open June 3, 2024. 

  13. Closing date for entry forms will be at 11:59PM PST on October 18, 2024. After this date, no further entries towards the contest will be permitted.

  14. The Promoter is not responsible for entries not received regardless of the cause for non-receipt.

  15. The Promoter reserves the right to cancel, terminate, suspend, or amend the contest and these terms and conditions without notice at its discretion, at any time, without prior notice. 

  16. Entrants will be notified of any changes to the contest as soon as possible by the Promoter. 

  17. The Promoter is not responsible for any injury or damage to your or any other person’s equipment (computer, mobile telephone, or other device) used by you to enter into the contest or obtain any materials related to the contest.

  18. A winner will be chosen by way of an automated system draw from all entries received and verified by the Promoter.

  19. The winner will be notified by email within 3-5 business day of the closing date. All selected winners will be required to sign a Declaration and Release for their respective prizes. If the winner cannot be contacted and/or failure to complete the required Declaration and Release document within 3 days of notification, the Promoter reserves the right to withdraw the prize and pick a replacement winner.

  20. The Promoter will coordinate with the winners for their respective prizes to be mailed to the winners’ preferred shipping addresses. Please note: We will not be able to mail to P.O. Boxes. 

  21. There will be five (5) winners drawn; each winner will receive one prize. The total value of the five (5) prizes are $1525.30 CAD (Grand Prize = $1,039.95 CAD, Prize #2 = $237.70 CAD, Prize #3 = $247.70 CAD). Actual/appraised value may differ at time of each prize awarded. No cash or other prize substitutions shall be permitted. Prizes must be accepted as awarded.

  22. The Promoter reserves the right to exchange items in the prize packs with a comparable alternative of equal or greater value, for reasons beyond their control, certain items become unavailable, discontinued, or are otherwise unable to be included. 

  23. The Promoter will arrange for the shipment of prizes using a reputable shipping service. The package will be handled and shipped in accordance with the standard practices of the chosen shipping service. 

  24. The Promoter is not responsible for the loss, theft, damage, or delay once the packages has been mailed out and entrusted to the shipping service.  

  25. The contest is not affiliated with or sponsored by Marriott International Inc. The Promoter holds full responsibility for the administration and fulfillment of the contest.

  26. The Promoter is not responsible for any international currency exchange rate fluctuations that may affect the value of the gift card at the time of the winner’s redemption at Marriott hotels and resorts. 

  27. To redeem the Marriott gift card, visit the official Marriott website at gifts.marriott.com or contact the designated Marriott customer service. Additional terms and conditions for gift card redemption can be found on the Marriott website.

  28. The prizes are non-transferable. Any and all prize-related expenses, including without limitation of any and all federal, provincial, and/or local taxes, shall be on the sole responsibility of the respective winners. No substitution of prize or transfer and/or assignment of the respective prizes to others nor request for the cash equivalent by the winners are permitted. 

  29. The respective winners agree to supply the Promoter with additional information that the Promoter may reasonably require in order to process and facilitate the acceptance and/or use of the prizes and/or as required by law.

  30. The Promoter is not responsible, and disclaims all liability, for any loss, liability, injury, expense or damage of any nature, whether arising from negligence or any other cause, which is suffered by entrants’ participation in the contest or the acceptance and/or use by entrants, of the respective prizes.

  31. By participating in this contest, each entrant and winner agrees that the Promoter may post the winner’s name on its website. 

  32. The Promoter may require winners to sign a liability/publicity release, including a consent to the Promoter posting the winner’s name and photograph on its website. If a winner fails to return the contest documents within the time specified by the Promoter, they will forfeit their prize and an alternate winner will be selected.

  33. This contest is subject to all applicable laws of the Province of British Columbia and the laws of Canada, as well as these Terms and Conditions. 

Privacy collection notice

The ‘Where in The World’ Campaign collects personal information on behalf of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV under the authority of the University Act (RSBC 1996, c.468) and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (RSBC 1996, c.165). The personal information collected includes your name, email address, mailing address, telephone number, employment information, and student ID (for verification purposes and date of birth in lieu of student ID number).

It is related directly to and needed by the University to update the alumni database. The information will be used to improve future communications with Alumni. The information may be disclosed to faculties and departments in the University strictly upon request and only for Alumni related activities or programs.

WINNER NOTIFICATION

The selected winners of their respective prizes will be notified via email within 3-5 business days of the closing date. The winners must respond within 3 days of notification to claim their respective prize. If the winner does not reply to the winning notification email by the above specified deadline, another winner will be selected for the respective designated prize.
