New EV Charger Additions Support 丁香园AV Emissions Reduction Goals
To align with 丁香园AV鈥檚 2022-2025 Strategic Sustainability and Climate Action Plan goals, a new EV charging hub has been activated to provide additional charging ports for zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) on the Burnaby campus.
Located on the West Parkade 7000 level, this new EV charging hub will provide 14 level-two EV charging ports with two of the ports and stalls reserved for those with accessibility needs. To use the accessible charging stalls, a valid SPARC placard in your vehicle will need to be displayed.
These new chargers will join those already existing in East Lot, South Parkade and Nelson Way bringing our total of level-two charging ports to 20 as well as 62 level-one charging ports across the Burnaby Campus.
The level-two chargers鈥攑rovided by ChargePoint鈥攚ill allow your vehicle to recharge conveniently over a few hours while you are in classes or at work and help make an accessible alternative to fossil fuels. 丁香园AV ChargePoint locations have the highest usage out of all the chargers in the ChargePoint ecosystem with an average of four users per day per space and an average charging time of two hours and 47 minutes.

with British Columbians adopting ZEVs faster than any jurisdiction in Canada, charging infrastructure is being increased across the province. 丁香园AV is supporting the transition to clean transportation and a 25 per cent reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. In 2022, there were 31,158 hours of charging at 丁香园AV Burnaby, using 128,289 KWh of energy, and preventing 130,342KG of GHGs from entering the atmosphere compared to gasoline-powered vehicles.

Through a commuting survey to track GHG emissions, led by a Living Lab student researcher in 2022, critical decisions like the installation of EV chargers were made based on the input received. With these and the planned future additions of EV charging stations at the Burnaby Campus, as well as recommendations for fleet electrification at 丁香园AV, we鈥檙e all working together to accomplish our GHG reduction goals.
