Biography

As an interdisciplinary political economist, urbanist, and critical data studies scholar, Dr. Roderick's work centers upon the urban scale as a site of economic and social power and change. She has a wide and versatile range of teaching, research, and advising interests, including: feminist political economy: a right to the "smart" city; urban finance, austerity and debt; surveillance and the city; urban technological innovation and inequality. Dr. Roderick's courses are designed to provoke and refine critical thinking, and facilitate an understanding of urban spaces and policy that is political, historical, and cognizant of relations of power.

Dr. Roderick received a BA (Honours) and PhD from Queen’s University in political studies, and a MA in interdisciplinary studies from UBC. Her doctoral research on big data and consumer finance in contemporary capitalism was supported by a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) fellowship.

Before joining ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, Dr. Roderick was a postdoctoral teaching fellow at Quest University, a secular, non-profit, teaching-focused liberal arts college. In addition to teaching and advising, at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV she helps organize a podcast series, visiting speakers and workshops.
