Earth Sciences
This program provides non-earth science major students with the opportunity to understand the fundamentals of earth sciences without necessarily specializing in earth sciences.
Minimum Grade Requirement
Students enrolled in this certificate program must achieve a grade of C- or better in all prerequisite and required courses. Some of the courses have prerequisites not included in the certificate requirements. In addition, a program GPA of 2.0 must be obtained on the overall course work (CGPA) as well as on the upper division subset of that work (UDGPA) in the program area.

Dynamic Earth offers an introduction to minerals, rocks, geologic resources and processes. Plate tectonics is the unifying theory of geology and is the focus as we learn how the Earth changes over geologic time and results in the formation of volcanoes and mountain belts, faults, folds and earthquakes. Students may select their elective courses to encompass a number of focus areas, including geoscience education, general earth science, environmental geoscience, geology, or paleontology. Students are invited to visit the department’s website for a list of course offerings by focus areas or to contact an advisor.
