Communication Minor

This minor explores, analyzes, and critically evaluates some of the diverse dimensions of communication, including media and culture; technology and society; political economy and policy.

This program, along with another minor or extended minor in a relevant department, may be completed as part of a Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, or Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology BA degree.

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Requirements

¶¡ÏãÔ°AV is based on a grade point average of Communication courses (CMNS GPA).

Applicants will have a minimum 2.50 Communication grade point average (CMNS GPA) or transfer grade point average (GPA) upon completion of the lower division requirements. 

A minimum 2.25 CMNS GPA is required to remain in good standing in the program.

CMNS 110 - Introduction to Communication Studies (3)

An introduction to selected theories about human communication. This course is required for a major, honours or minor in communication. Breadth-Social Sciences.

An introduction to the forms, theories and institutions of communication as they relate to broader social change, with a focus on the political, economic and regulatory shifts characterizing Canadian and transnational media systems. Upper Division Requirements

Students complete at least four upper division CMNS courses (and the lower division prerequisites). At least two (2) of these courses (minimum 8 units) must be taken at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Directed study and field placement courses may not be used to meet this requirement.
