¶¡ÏãÔ°AV

For admission to the major or a joint major* program within the Beedie School of Business, students will be selected competitively from one of the following four streams. To be considered for admission to the faculty, students in categories 2, 3 and 4 must have completed each lower division required course with a minimum C- grade.

*Joint Major Applicants must first be admitted to the Business Administration program through one of the four streams below, taking into account any modifications to Category 3 and 4 requirements where specified under each joint major program’s lower division requirements. 

Category 1 – direct from secondary school

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from secondary school graduates based on the general ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV admission requirements, faculty specific admission requirements, and an assessment of overall leadership potential and extra-curricular achievements. Successful applicants will have experience in one or more of the following extra-curricular areas: entrepreneurship, social activism, athletics, arts (performing, visual, music, and writing), community leadership and/or involvement, career progression or other areas.

Category 2 – direct from a recognized post-secondary institution

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from students transferring from a recognized post secondary institution. These students must have completed all of the required lower division courses (except BUS 207 and 254 which may be completed after faculty admission). Students will be selected competitively based on grades achieved in the nine lower division required courses**. Of the required courses, a maximum of 2 of the 9 courses may be repeated for admission. 

Category 3 – all courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from students who have completed all of their courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV including the required lower division courses (except BUS 207 and 254 which may be completed after faculty admission). Students will be selected competitively based on the grades achieved in the 9 lower division required courses.** Of the required courses, a maximum of 2 of the 9 courses may be repeated for admission. Note that a minimum ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.4 is also required for admission to the faculty.

Category 4 – some ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and other post-secondary courses

A portion of the annual admission will be selected from students who have completed some courses at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and some at other post-secondary institutions including the required lower division courses (except BUS 207 and 254 which may be completed after faculty admission). Students will be selected competitively based on the grades achieved in the 9 lower division required courses** earned at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and other institutions. Of the required courses, a maximum of 2 of the 9 courses may be repeated for admission. Note that a minimum ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 2.4 is also required for admission to the faculty.

Application Procedures

Students applying under category 1 or 2 should apply to the faculty at the same time that they apply for admission to the University.

Category 3 or 4 applicants should apply to the faculty after completing 30 units. Students should apply during the term in which the lower division requirements (except BUS 207 and 254) are completed. Students not accepted upon initial application may reapply. Unsuccessful applicants may appeal through the faculty admissions appeals committee.

300 and 400 Division BUS Course Enrolment Restrictions

Students other than those accepted into a program in business administration may complete selected 300 and 400 division business administration courses contingent upon

• space available on the day before the term begins
  
• meeting the prerequisites for the requested course
• recommended minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.67

Registration in BUS 360W is limited to students who are approved in a business major, joint major, honours, or joint honours plan.

Additionally, only business students admitted to the Accounting concentration will be permitted to enrol in upper division (300- and 400-level) accounting courses required for this concentration (with the exception of BUS 320).

In addition to normal university grade point average requirements, the Beedie School of Business requires a minimum 2.40 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for entry into all 300 and 400 division business courses.
