Demonstrates how information systems are used by organizations to improve productivity and create competitive advantage. Provides hands on training in productivity tools including Excel, Visio, Access and Web design tools. Prerequisite: REQ-12 units. An introduction to financial accounting, including accounting terminology, understanding financial statements, analysis of a business entity using financial statements. Theories, concepts and issues in the field of organizational behavior with an emphasis on individual and team processes. Core topics include employee motivation and performance, stress management, communication, work perceptions and attitudes, decision-making, team dynamics, employee involvement and conflict management. An introduction to the evaluation of arguments as they are encountered in everyday life. The central aim will be to sharpen skills of reasoning and argumentation by understanding how arguments work and learning to distinguish those which actually prove what they set out to show from those which do not. An introduction to some of the central problems of philosophy. Topics to be discussed include the different theories of reality; the nature and sources of knowledge, truth, evidence, and reason; the justification of belief and knowledge about the universe. These topics and problems will be considered as they arise in the context of issues such as: relativism versus absolutism; the existence of God; personal identity; the nature of the mind and its relation to the body; free will and determinism; the possibility of moral knowledge. An introduction to the central problems of ethics: for example, the nature of right and wrong, the objectivity or subjectivity of moral judgments, the relativity or absolutism of values, the nature of human freedom and responsibility. The course will also consider general moral views such as utilitarianism, theories of rights and specific obligations, and the ethics of virtue. These theories will be applied to particular moral problems such as abortion, punishment, distributive justice, freedom of speech, and racial and sexual equality. Sometimes the course will also focus on important historical figures such as Plato, Aristotle, Kant and Mill. Open to all students. Builds on fundamental concepts introduced in financial accounting and examines a variety of tools and techniques used by managers to operate a business. Provides an introduction to the field and practice of marketing. Takes an expansive approach and addresses how people, ideas, organizations, and places as well as more conventional products/services are marketed. The course goes beyond theory and challenges students to apply these concepts to real world situations. Prerequisite: REQ-60 units. Only open to students in the Business Minor program. Identifies how Multinational Enterprises (MNE) formulate strategies and the organizational capabilities needed to supported these strategies to produce international competitive advantages. Students will study the criteria for assessing strategic and organizational capabilities of MNEs to determine solutions for increasing organizational performance. Prerequisite: 60 units. This course is only open to students in the Business Minor program.

Organizational opportunities exist in social and commercial contexts at organizational and individual levels. Through intensive experiential learning, students will experience firsthand the challenges involved in the discovery, evaluation and implementation of activating opportunities. Prerequisite: Bus 311, Bus 340, Bus 341, and 60 units. The course is only open to students in the Business Minor program.
