Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) describes the content and thermal properties of interior air that could affect health and comfort of building occupants.
Compliance & Oversight
Regulations
In BC, indoor air quality is regulated by who identifies minimum requirements for indoor air quality in workplaces and makes reference to guidance from the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standard and WorkSafeBC publications. However, there are currently no provincial or federal regulations in Canada that establish safe limits for common airborne contaminants such as dust, found in commercial or institutional settings. In order to ensure that occupants are adequately protected from IAQ issues arising for non-industrial facilities, EHS and Facilities Services reference guidelines and standards created by various organizations specifically for these types of environments.
