REEL 94 COMMENTARY
1. A tractor is demolishing a brick wall in the distance. Compressor in background. Truck passes closely in front of microphones.
*2. Close-up of tractor taking apart the brick wall. Good, clear quality of demolition.
2'00" tractor halts for conversation between operator and foreman.
3'00" back to work again.
3'45" truck horn, and passing truck.
5'15" seaplane, recordist moves closer in.
3. Starts with high swooshing sound, then hammering, etc., outside.
*1'00" walking inside.
4. Inside the cooperage.
0'20" sanding machine, with hammering and other sounds in the background.
2'25" sander stops for a few seconds, move on to general factory ambience.
4'15" grinder type of sound.
4'50" slapping of bells.
5'40" interesting hammering cross rhythm.
6'45" loud grinding stops, belts audible.
7'25" horn (car?) from outside.
8'00"-8'40" recordist moves about a lot.
9'45" grinding stops again, winch sounds audible.
5. Begins inside the cooperage.
*0'40" muffled train whistle.
1'10" move outside, fan noise from vents.
1'35" train whistle again.
2'00" train whistle again, closer.
2'30" train whistle again.
3'30" moving toward the Sweeney Sawmill behind the cooperage. Squeaky machinery.
*4'45" close up of large chain link assembly, slowly working. Squeaky and clanky, interesting rhythm. Quite hi-fi.
6'35" moving away.
6'55" moving outside, distinct ambience change.
7'35" truck passes in front of microphones, the recordists climb scaffolding of large neon sign to get bird's ear's "view" of the area and to wait for the noon shift whistles.
10'45" one lonely shift whistle.
14'45" another muffled whistle?

6. General ambience by a large moorage area between Granville and Burrard bridges. Mainly construction sounds, sporadic within the blurry roar of the city.

3'40" lively sounds of metal tool or rod dropping.
4'30" B.C. Hydro train whistle, and spicy flair on the last toot.
5'25" radio.
5'35" train whistle again.
