REEL 51 COMMENTARY

1. Same as previous reel.

6'20" drop-out on one channel, wind noise.

7'30" large truck roars by, frogs take no notice!

9'30" recordist changes position.

2-6. Compared to reels 39/40 the activity here is very different, it was evening, less people on board, many of whom seemed somewhat drunk, and perhaps the recordists, on this last leg of the tour, were not so energetic. A notable difference is that this boat tends to rattle more than the Queen of Tsawwassen.

2. 1'00" entering ferry by car.

2'10" directions from attendant, note the 3 hums right after that appear and disappear as car drives down inside the ferry.

3'10" hand brake on, to park car.

3. Starts with loud hum.

0'55" entering lounge.

5. About twelve people sitting here, conversation.

6. Same as take 5.

3'30" move to another area.

4'35" p.a. announcement, move to outer deck at rear.

6'15" questioning recordists.

7'30" buzzer noises, followed by trucks loading onto ferry.

8'00" questioner returns.

9'00" questioner returns again.

10'00" move to noisy ventilation fan on deck.

11'30" back to centre of deck, ferry begins to move off, barely noticeable acoustically, no horn.

14'30" buzzer.
