REEL 47 COMMENTARY
Apart from the heavy industry noises themselves, the many changes of ambience as the recordists walk from section to section are also very interesting. Sounds vary from strongly rhythmic to strongly tonal, with different broadband textures throughout. During the tour all places and machines are identified by the guide.
2. The following machines are marked on tape:
* hydraulic barker.
* chipper.
* chain conveyor.
* screening chips.
* good hum from conveyors.
* leaky steam line.
3. Steam valve continued, reverb comes from steam pipe system, not from actual space.
1'10" ambience change into chip storage and conveyor area.
* steam turbines in powerhouse, loud! Nice hum.
* boilers.
6'25" someone asks about noise levels.
* fastening the top of a digester, drill sounds and a good clear "bong" of the lid.
* screwing lid onto the digester with electric wrench, great sound and rhythm, funny.
Knotter area.
Pulp wash.
