REEL 134 COMMENTARY

1. Recordist is in the woods on the grounds of the abbey. Footsteps, some clicks, wind, plane in distance, bells start (4'00") with change ringing, abrupt edit (4'28"),  strong wind in the trees (7'30"), bells get louder as recordist approaches (9'00"), footsteps, some distortion on right channel, bells fade as he enters the abbey (13'30"), reverberant footsteps in the church, clock ticking (14'30") with bells in background, more footsteps bells stop (16'06") with muted voices continuing.

2. Foreground noise as recordist gets settled, singing in background (in English), singers approach (1'00"), leader explains musical passages, Lord's Prayer sung, organ interlude (3'00"), organ swells (4'10"), choir begins (4'50") singing in Latin, Gregorian chant style, priest speaks (7'50") with congregational responses, choir sings in English (9'1 0"), priest chants a prayer (12'00"), reading from the Book of Revelation (12'50"), choir chants in English (16'10 "), another reading from the Book of John, organ interlude with choir joining in with Alleluia (17'45"), more responses between priest and congregation, a reading from the Book of Matthew (20'11"). Congregation sits (22'00"), sermon begins, some children's voices (baby crying) .  Note the readings are from the modern version of the Bible, not the King James; the order is Benedictine.
 
3.  Sermon continues, test tones, baby cries, choir sings (8'25"), prayer (12'02"), choir sings (13'15"), congregation response (16'05"), offering, various singing and responses, communion ritual,  bell rings (20'05", 20'43"), chanting, various other responses.

4.  More singing with organ accompaniment, Priest continues with prayer (6'13"), conclusion with organ extro (8'03"), ends (10'38") and people leave. Jumps (14'34") to a question and answer period in a smaller room. Some questions about writing chant in English which had been performed in the service for the first time.
