1. ATHABASCA RIVER 11'00"
2. RIVER FERRY, at Little Fort, B.C. 17'00"
REEL 122 COMMENTARY
1. The river at 4 a.m. Strong rushing but good foreground "sparkles". Great!
2. A relic of the transportation system of the past -- except for the transplanted outboard motor. Curiously, even during the quiet period, the river is inaudible, until the very end (approx. 11'00"). Clanks, clunks and whirring noises describe the mysterious process of getting the thing with its cargo across the river. The ferry follows a thick wire guideline which is stretched underneath the river.
0'25" crossing starts.
l'00" small outboard motor starts the ferry. Note the quiet as motor is turned off.
4'20" small plane overhead.
5'05" chain dropping.
5'30" outboard motor again.
7'15" speed change to 7 1/2 ips.
8'30" motor off, pulling away wooden wheel blocks from cars on ferry.
10'30" winch followed by outboard again briefly.
11'00" winching gate down, water audible here.
15'00" car starts up, runs off.
15'30" crowd of tourists come on board (mostly ladies, lots of laughter).
