FOLDER 10 COMMENTARY
1. Keynote of engine sounds, sporadic "crashes" of debris being moved about, brake squeaks at 0:48, footsteps at 2:15, brake squeaks at 3:05, birds (crow) at 3:15, footsteps at 5:20, voices at 5:50; machines are at the greatest distance at around 7:30, crow at 8:22, "reverse beep" at 8:25, crows in the distance at 9:25, loud car passing at 10:50
2. Crow at 0:09, 0:18, "reverse beep" at 0:40, loud car/motorbike at 3:30, loud crash at 3:59, passing truck at 7:10, two loud crashes at 9:12 and 9:16.
3. Heavy object being shifted (collapsing) beginning at 0:50, voices of workers at 2:18, work being done by hand (hammering) beginning at 3:30, the "beep" of machines in reverse can be heard sporadially throughout, dog bark at 6:50, peculiar 'squeak' at 8:40, loud crash at 10:46 - large object collapsing/moving, human sounds (hammering) at 11:30.
4. Truck drives past at 0:50, boards rustling at 3:24, very faint birdcalls beginning at aprox 3:45, hammering at 3:48.
5. Lots of voices chatting - visitors to the site, children loading onto the train, whistle at 1:40, prerecorded sound at 1:40, train departs at 1:55, child's voice at 3:10, laughing at 3:15, train whistle at 4:07, train sound at 4:40, train whistle at 9:40, 10:16, train arrives at 10:20.
6. Various steam whistles - a passing train beginning at 0:30, whistle at 0:40, car passing at 1:10, car door closing at 1:33, footsteps at 1:45, cars pass at 3:00, voices at 3:20, 3:30, whistle at 4:05, 4:47, 5:30, footsteps beginning at 5:30, car door closing at 6:13, footsteps at 6:26, train whistle at 9:28, 9:55.
7. Seaplane beginning at 0:20, car at 0:50, 1:00, children playing at a distance audible at 2:08, motors as keynote - the din of the harbour, nearby roads & lawn mower, birds at 2:42, Chevron whistle (the refinery's alarm whistle being tested) beginning at 3:55 ending at 4:15, nice reverberation from Burrard inlet.
8. Birds chirping at intro, background voices chatting, car at 0:42, bird chirping at 1:14, car passing at 1:53, nearby bird at 3:50, car horn at 4:07, distant horn of the West Coast Express at 4:20 and again at 4:40, nearby bird at 5:10, car passing at 5:20, 5:30, truck at 5:45, truck at 6:31, whistle at 10:30, loud motorcycle at 11:30, sporadic sound of typing from recordist, train whistle at 12:20, hammering in the distance at 13:00, train whistle at 16:20, dog bark at 16:25, train whistle at 17:00, car at 18:10.
9. West Coast Express horn at intro, cars until 0:35, car at 1:00, airplane at 1:30, car at 2:00, bird at 2:10, train whistle at 2:25, 3:00, child scream at 3:15, 3:20, 3:25, train whistle at 3:50, 4:00, horn at 5:00, car passes at 5:24, crow at 5:31, car at 6:28, 6:50, 7:11, car door closes at 7:15.
10. West Coast Express passes at intro, stream as keynote, sporadic bird song, seagulls at 2:25, dog walker passes by at 5:00, seagull at 7:10, voices appear at 10:45, people walk past at 11:05, voices at 13:50, people walking a dog pass at 14:20, airplane at 19:10, conversation with a passer-by begins at 25:00 about spiderwebs, etc.
11. Track ID at intro, Confederation Park forest walk, dog barking at 1:00, 2:10, airplane begins aprox 2:10, WCE whistle beginning at 3:03, train approaches following that, dog barking at 4:50, WCE whistle in the distance at 5:00
12. Light rain, dog barking at 0:45, train passes with whistle at 1:16, train rail noise beginning around 3:00.
13. Urban industrial ambience with large flocks of crows cawing; first section with many cars passing, individual crows (4:07, 5:13, 5:40, 6:06, 7:29, 10:45) plus an unidentified bird, distant siren (7:00) with surge of crow sounds; the section after 7:30 is the clearest part of the recording with little traffic and an increased density around 10:50.
