COMMENTARY

1. These frogs are called "crapauds" in French. They sound more like a musical instrument of a Gamelan than frogs. Very exotic beautiful sound! See log sheets for details on location.

2. Attempt at traffic-free recording of frogs, but unfortunately there still was plenty of traffic.

(3 a,b,c, - not marked on log sheets, but partly quite good takes with bells, birds, dogs)

3. Coster diamond company's tour carriage passing in front of hotel, on Nicolas Maesterstraat.

4. Taped in building of Politie Verkeersdienst, note reverb when siren stops. Speaker below headlights. Interval P4.

5. Taped from outside of building, vehicle inside. Less powerful siren. Interval m3, speakers on top.

6. Speakers in front. Interval m3, taped inside.

7. Taped inside, Interval P4, old model.

8. " " " " new model, quite a bit louder, note recordist changed levels.

9. Recording made from outside. This siren is on the newest firetruck they have.

10. Talk: in the 1950's, the firetrucks had an electric bell and a horn, the bell was used intermittently to clear an intersection, for instance.

11. Siren's interval: Tritone! Bell sounds like fire alarm bell in schools. Both are on a 1952 Dodge firetruck.

12. Siren's interval: P5

13. The location of the fire came in on a code, which was sounded by a bell. The firemen here hand-operated the device to produce the sound.
