REEL 62 COMMENTARY

1/2. Delicate and clear. Interesting pitches and rhythms in "ticks and clicks" of higher frequency. Low frequency "clunks" happen every 40". Broadband hum in background.

3. Information on chimes (size, weight, etc.) read by recordist from plaque on wall of the clock room. Throughout take, ticking in the background.

4. Reverberation in marble/gothic hallway. Lots of voices and footsteps.

5. A very dry outdoor sound compared to previous take. Moozak, footsteps, broadband background sound from distant traffic.

6. Starlings are audible through the dense traffic. Close voice at 50", 3'30", 3'50"; car horn at 4'00".

7. Traffic audible from outside. Footsteps and voices make out main part of ambience in this reverberant space. (Reverberation is not as high as A4 of this reel.) Some typing in background. On the whole not that interesting.

8. This is recorded from parked car. Children's voices and footsteps are coming and going. At 1'25" microphone position is changed to other side of car. Car window winds up (2'30"), echoing voices (3'15"), and footsteps, and wind chimes (5'00"). Lively, happy atmosphere in general.

9. Starts with distant voices, approaching at 3'20". At 5'20" dry, close voice melting into reverberation. At 7'30" voices disappear and at 9'30" more reappear. "He smiled at me", close up voice passing, then silence (11'15"). At 13'55" footsteps approach, wait, leave.

10. Cork pop amidst chatter (0'10"). Not very sensational.

11. The longest radio scan in the collection. Continued on reel 63.
