REEL 18 COMMENTARY

3. Moose hardly audible. Car approaches (1'15"), stops, chat with guy about the moose and berries he picked.

7. This is a high-pitched electronic foghorn. It blows every 30"; only two blasts on this take.

8. Longer take. Ocean faintly audible in distance.

10. Change from diaphone to electronic horn 3 years ago. Lighthouse keeper trying to start diaphone motor (3'00"), starts (4'00") off (4'20").

11. Extremely loud (92 dBA at 10 feet).

12,13. Type B horn, does not have the "grunt". Sounds a bit like a sick cow. Lighthouse keeper activated it especially for soundscapers, even though it went out of service several years ago. It blasts 3 times in a row every 50". Ambience is ruled by motor of air compressor, quite interesting because sound gets thrown around by wind.

14. Note the TV running in background. Foghorn blowing throughout. Lots of disturbances while walking outside (7'00").
