Dialogue on Canada’s Future is a collaboration between ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Public Square and the Cascade Institute of Royal Roads University. The Dialogue will help Canadians imagine positive futures for our country and find pathways we can follow to make those futures real. It will seek common ground among Canadians on the underlying principles, identities, and moral commitments that can enable Canada to pursue broadly shared well-being in a time of environmental, social, economic, and technological turbulence. It will consult Canada’s diverse communities, particularly groups that have had, to date, little chance to express their voice in national conversations. And it will identify concrete strategies, policies, and actions that can allow us to create together the positive futures we imagine.This process will seek to address growing polarization and reveal common ground among Canadians on the underlying principles, identities, and moral commitments that can enable Canada to pursue broadly shared well-being in a time of environmental, social, economic, and technological turbulence. It will consult Canada’s diverse communities, particularly groups that have had, to date, little chance to express their voice in national conversations. And it will identify concrete strategies, policies, and actions that can allow us to create together the positive futures we imagine.
Position description:
As the special events coordinator, you will participate in the behind-the-scenes pre-work that goes into project development and event management. The coordinator will support the team by researching funders, writing summary briefs for project leaders, assisting with consultation materials, scheduling meetings, mapping similar projects, tracking networks and key contacts, and related tasks to help set up future events for success.
A successful candidate has a flair for deep-thinking work and general administration. They are an organized self-starter with a passion for finding and prioritizing information for decision-makers. They approach complex issues with curiosity– always looking for connection amongst diverse experiences, thinking and research disciplines. They know what it means to show initiative and fill in the details of ambiguous directions or stated goals and receive feedback in an iterative process. Just as important, they are someone who initially chooses positivity, joy, or humour when they or someone else makes a mistake and then seeks to take the time for mutual repair and learning. They also understand any successful project needs robust administration processes and find joy in supporting orderly systems. Finally, the successful candidate also has copy-editing superpowers.
Note: This position is hybrid. There will be some required in-person work at 312 Main Street- proper public health protocols will be in place.
Responsibilities:
- Assisting with researching and writing background briefs, memos and strategy documents on potential project funders, comparable projects, potential partners and other topics related to the project
- Assisting in the development of consultation materials, prep-work and coordination of September round tables
- Assisting grant application research and grant writing
- Updating project documents as well as ensuring administrative processes and file management procedures are followed
- Arranging meetings with stakeholders and general administrative tasks
Qualifications:
- Between the ages of 16-29
- Strong reading comprehension and excellent writing with brevity and plain language
- Demonstrated ability to work in a professional environment, meet deadlines and complete complex projects
- Excellent English proficiency, copy-editing superpowers
- Ability to keep track of a lot of moving parts
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), team project management applications (slack, MS Teams)
Preference may be given to applicants with skills and experience in any of the following:
- ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV student or alumnus
- Previous background in event planning, stakeholder management, administration
- Keen interest in community engagement and dialogue.
