Biography
Alexandre (Alex) Rivard is an Assistant Professor (LTA) in the School of Public Policy. He holds a PhD from the University of British Columbia in political science. Prior to joining ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Université de Montréal (2022-2023) and with the Centre for the Study of Democratic Citizenship at Université Laval (2021-2022).
His research focuses on three main themes. First is public opinion and public policy, notably in determining what ideological values and predispositions structure opposition, and support, for new housing. Second concerns Canadian political institutions such as legislatures, elections, and the career paths of politicians. Finally, he maintains an active research interest in secessionist parties in Western Europe and North America. His academic research has been published in the Canadian Journal of Political Science, Representation, Nations & Nationalism, and has published op-eds in the Toronto Star and the Vancouver Sun.
