Physics Graduating Students Wins Convocation Medals
Juliana Besler (left) and Miranda Louwerse (right) graduating students from the Department of Physics both will be awarded Convocation Medals in June 2023 ceremony.
Julie Besler (left) will be awarded the Governor General's Silver Medal (awarded to the two undergraduate students who achieve the highest scholastic standing upon graduation from a bachelor’s degree program). Julie has worked with Dr. Erol Girt (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Physics) for the past few years researching magnetic phenomena in his Physics of Nanomagnetic Materials and Devices Lab. This September, Julie is excited to begin her Master's degree under his supervision.
Miranda Louwerse (right) will be awarded the Dean of Graduate Studies Convocation Medal (one of top three PhD students graduating from Faculty of Science this year). Miranda is currently a Data Scientist at AbCellera Biologics in Vancouver. She graduated from the Chemistry department, but her senior supervisor was Dr. David Sivak from Physics department, which provided her with ample opportunity to interact with the Physics department during her academic years.
Congratulations to both!
