The Banff International Research Station hosted the "" workshop from November 18th to November 23rd, 2012.
A group of Elders, mathematicians, math educators and teachers came together to find ways to improve mathematics education among aboriginals while at the same time acknowledging the importance of traditional culture.
The main goal of the workshop was to create resources that were sound, interesting and challenging mathematically, with a factual and rich cultural context and to provide these resources to various venues of instruction in order to supply a more balanced curriculum where aboriginal culture can take its rightful place.
At this workshop, Veselin Jungic, Mark MacLean, Alejandro Erickson, and Simon Roy represented the Math Outreach Program. Veselin and Alejandro presented on the first day of the workshop. About 40 workshop particiapants learned about the Math Catcher project and enjoyed building tensegrities. Veselin presentation is available .
