Bella Bella Community School, Bella Bella, BC

Friday, April 27, 2012

The Math Catcher Program visited beautiful Bella Bella on April 26 and 27, 2012. Our hosts were Ms. Johanna Gordon-Walker, SEAS Community Initiative Coordinator, and Mr. Fred Schaub, the school principal. We were very proud that a member of our team, Jessica Humchitt from the Heiltsuk Nation, grew up in Bella Bella.

We had five sessions with students on Friday plus a session with teachers on Thursday. Everything went very well. With teachers we had an interesting exchange of experiences.  We had groups of very excited and cooperative students from Grades 4 to 11. We gave to all students a positive early experience with mathematics, something that I hope they will remember for a long time. What we got was something that will stay with us forever: a warm welcome from a community of kind and smart people.
