River Raft Elementary School, Clearwater, BC
Tuesday May 21, 2019
The Math Catchers Outreach Program visited the Secwepemc territory in Raft River B.C. Dr. Veselin Jungic and Lindsay Clifton went to Raft River Elementary School where we did three sessions in the afternoon in the library of the school with the kindergarten class and grades 1-3. With the students this young we do math puzzles, watch a movie and play with math toys. The movies is about an eagle who caught a salmon that is too big for it to care so he calls out for help and 5 other animals answer his call. At the end of the movie the narrator asks the students a question why do all the larger animals need the help of tiny frog and the students answer because it does not matter your size you still can help. After doing all the math puzzles and watching the movie the students appreciated playing with math toys. Hopefully the students were inspired by our presentation. It was wonderful to meet all the teachers and students of Raft River Elementary school. We would like to thank Mike Bowden for inviting us to visit your school. We had fun. (LC)
