Julia Denholm, Dean
Julia Denholm is the dean of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Learning at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV and has extensive experience in teaching and higher education leadership. Before joining ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, she was dean, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and dean of kálax-ay, the Sunshine Coast campus, at Capilano University. She previously held roles at Langara College as instructor and chair, English, and division chair, Humanities, and her academic career started at UBC, where she taught in the Department of English, the Faculty of Commerce and the Faculty of Applied Science, as well as through the Distance Education and Technology unit.
A lifelong learner herself, Denholm is committed to community engagement and to the development of academically excellent continuing education programs. She has a PhD in educational studies and a BA (Hons) and MA in English literature from the University of British Columbia.
Judy Smith, Executive Director, Academic Planning and Strategic Projects
Judy Smith is the executive director, academic planning and strategic projects in ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Learning at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV. Previously, she was the associate dean of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Learning and director of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Learning’s Leadership and Community Building program. She has a master of arts degree in history from the University of British Columbia.
For more than ten years at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, Smith has led the design of flexible credit and non-credit continuing education programs. While interim dean of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Learning, she was responsible for administrative and academic teams as they developed and delivered academic programs in the areas of career development, community capacity building and liberal arts. As director of the Leadership and Community Building portfolio, she established programs that help people effect positive social and systemic change.
Smith began her career managing non-profit organizations focused on social equity. She continues to be deeply committed to Indigenous Truth and Reconciliation, and she strives to integrate equity, diversity and inclusion into her professional practice.
