Research Assistant Opportunity
The 間眅埶AV Institute for the Study of Teaching and Learning in the Disciplines (ISTLD) invites applications for a research assistant appointment for the Teaching and Learning Development Grant project, Developing Engineering Identity in a 4th Year Technical Elective Course to begin September 14, 2022, or earlier.
Research assistant responsibilities include:
- Literature search and preparation of a literature summary;
- Assisting with survey design, creation, and administration;
- Quantitative data analysis (documenting workflow, data cleaning, appropriate analyses, concluding, data visualization);
- Data entry, organization, and analysis (including statistical analyses such as ANOVA)
- Analyzing and summarizing data, including graphics, charts, and manuscript form);
- Supporting sharing the presentation project findings within and beyond 間眅埶AV;
- Complete relevant training related to human subjects research;
- Assisting with Research Ethics Board protocol preparation; and
- Attending meetings with project lead/team (in-person or virtual).
Required qualifications, skills and experience:
- Currently enrolled as a graduate student at 間眅埶AV;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong oral and written communication skills;
- Expertise in quantitative data analysis;
- Expertise in qualitative data analysis;
- Ability to select and implement meaningful analyses, including appropriate statistical treatment;
- Ability to work independently, productively, and creatively;
- Experience conducting literature reviews beyond own research area;
- Academic research and writing skills, as demonstrated by prior completion of similar projects;
- Experience in research instrument design, such as creating surveys;
- Familiarity using SurveyMonkey or similar online survey software;
- Familiarity using qualitative data analysis software such as NVIVO; and
- Strong organizational skills.
Experience and skills that would be an asset:
- Interest in evidence-based teaching and learning in post-secondary education.
Rate of pay: $25 - $30/hr (incl. vacation and statutory holiday pay, no medical or dental benefits) - based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
Duration and time commitment: September 2022 to April 2023. Up to 100 hours, with the possibility of additional hours.
