Bolivian Specialization in Community Economic Development Project
(2007-2013)

Description
This cooperation and development project was created through a partnership between two universities to establish a practical training program in Community Economic Development (CED) in Bolivia, directed at people working in development organizations and local government. Project activities were undertaken with the financial support of the Government of Canada, provided through the Canadian International Development Agency. Association of University and Colleges of Canada was the executing organization.

Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries were Bolivian women, indigenous peoples and poor/marginalized rural and urban communities who benefited from increased local control and participation in decision-making and new, sustainable economic opportunities.

Results

  • Strengthened capacity of Bolivian institutions to respond effectively to poverty reduction through private sector development and enhanced citizen participation 
  • Changes in patterns of development at the local level, toward increased gender equity, environmental sustainability, community participation, and sustainable economic opportunities
  • Improved capacity of women's leadership potential and of women's organizations
  • Creation of a network of CED practitioners in Bolivia and beyond
