Gerontology alumnus contributed to furthering student education

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a cherished member of our Gerontology community, Pat Blunden.

Blunden completed her bachelor of science (BSc) at the University of British Columbia in 1981 and was a distinguished alumnus of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV (¶¡ÏãÔ°AV), having graduated with a gerontology diploma in 1984. Blunden was a member of the first graduating class of the gerontology diploma program, founded by professor emerita Gloria Gutman. During her time at ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV, she exemplified the values of excellence, dedication, and resilience.

Beyond her academic endeavors, Blunden was known for her warm and compassionate nature. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for student education. Her ability to foster a sense of community and inclusivity left an impact on everyone fortunate enough to have known her.

Prior to completing her BSc and diploma, Blunden worked as a physiotherapist at Shaughnessy Hospital which exclusively treated veterans. Following her graduation, Blunden worked at the George Pearson Centre, a long-term residential care facility where she treated adults with disabilities. She also dedicated countless hours volunteering in the palliative care unit at Vancouver General Hospital.

Over the years, Blunden has been a tireless advocate for the importance of education and has remained a generous supporter of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV through the establishment of the . Her dedication to giving back to the community is a testament to her character and has allowed several undergraduate students to pursue their post-secondary education.

In her passing, we remember Blunden with deep admiration and fondness. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched, and her memory will continue to guide and inspire generations of ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV alumni to come.
