Mechatronic systems engineering professor Farid Golnaraghis team developed Shield-X, a micro-engineered membrane that can be applied to a helmet to minimize head injuries and prevent concussions.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has selected Shield-X to be featured as a part of its series, which celebrates innovative research across Canada.

Come see the Shield-X technology for yourself at the 間眅埶AV Science Rendezvous event on on the Burnaby campus.

Attendees will learn about the latest advancements in helmet design and accessories to mitigate the risk of head injury and concussion, says Daniel Abram, who is a postdoctoral fellow in Golnaraghis research lab and the chief technology officer of Shield-X Technology Inc.

Abram will be displaying three versions of their technology:

  • BX-E: The worlds first functional decal that diverts impact
  • BX-I: The first invisible membrane that is installed inside a helmet and reduces the twisting force applied to the brain during impact
  • BX-C: Their first wearable ultra-thin cap that can be worn under any helmet to enhance the performance of it
