¶¡ÏãÔ°AV takes steps to protect integrity of honorary degrees
Each year, ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV awards honorary degrees to distinguished individuals in recognition of their scholarly, scientific or artistic achievements, or in recognition of exceptional contributions to the public good. The award celebrates ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV values, and its recipients serve as an inspiration to students and the wider university community.
¶¡ÏãÔ°AV’s Senate recently discussed the absence of a policy or process to revoke an honorary degree, should the need arise.
A sub-committee of the Senate Committee on University Honours, chaired by Chancellor Tamara Vrooman, has been tasked with drafting a formal policy on honorary degrees that will include procedures for revoking an honorary degree.
The sub-committee has begun meeting. More details will be shared as they are available.
